Engineering Learnership 18.2 (External) – New Vaal Colliery
Seriti has officially opened applications for the Engineering Learnership 18.2 (External) under the New Vaal Colliery, reference number NVC127/25GS. This learnership is aimed at developing qualified artisans in critical engineering trades within the mining sector.
The programme targets entry-level candidates, with preference given to applicants from New Vaal Colliery host communities, and is aligned with Seriti’s commitment to skills development, transformation, and sustainable employment.
Purpose of the Learnership
The purpose of the Engineering Learnership 18.2 is to develop and successfully qualify learners as Artisans in various engineering trades. The programme combines structured theoretical learning with practical workplace exposure, leading to a recognised trade qualification.
Successful learners will be trained to operate in demanding mining environments while meeting industry safety, quality, and performance standards.
Engineering Trades Available
Applicants may apply for one (1) trade only and must clearly indicate the trade in their application:
- Electrician
- Fitter
- Instrument Mechanician
- Rigger
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet all the following requirements:
Academic Requirements
- Grade 12 Mathematics (not Mathematical Literacy) and Science with a minimum E symbol (40%),
AND - Two (2) N2 trade-related subjects
OR - Minimum N2 with four (4) relevant trade-related subjects
Trade Theory Subjects (per discipline)
- Electrician: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, Electrical Trade Theory
- Fitter: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Fitting & Machining Theory
- Instrument Mechanician: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, Instrument Trade Theory
- Rigger: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Engineering Drawing, Mechanotechnology
⚠️ Subjects with F symbols will not be accepted.
Additional Requirements
- Minimum 40% (E symbol) in required subjects
- Must be willing to undergo psychometric assessments
- Must be able and willing to work shifts, standby, and call-outs
- Ability to cope under pressure, be innovative, and self-motivated
- Ability to identify faults with minimal supervision
- Must be in possession of or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
- No criminal record
Advantageous Criteria
The following will be an added advantage:
- Previous experience in the mining sector
- A valid K53 driver’s licence
