The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) invites South African citizens to apply for Independent Correctional Centre Visitor (ICCV) positions across multiple correctional centres in South Africa. These are 36-month contract positions aimed at strengthening oversight, accountability, and human rights within correctional centres.
Position: Independent Correctional Centre Visitor (ICCV)
- Salary: R85 620 per annum (3/8th, Level 05)
- Plus: 37% in lieu of benefits
- Contract Term: 36 months
Requirements:
- Senior Certificate / Grade 12
- Computer literacy
- Recommendation letter from a community organisation (not older than 6 months)
- Must be public spirited and demonstrate knowledge of Batho Pele principles
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work under pressure and independently
- A driver’s licence is an added advantage
- Preference will be given to applicants residing near the specific correctional centres listed
Duties:
- Daily visits to correctional centres
- Engage with inmates and Department of Correctional Services (DCS) officials
- Monitor conditions of incarceration and report on findings
- Record and report deaths, segregation, use of restraints, and force
- Support JICS officials during inspections and investigations
- Handle and capture inmate complaints
- Draft detailed reports and conduct administrative duties
